A SET OF FOUR OUTSTANDING AND EXTREMELY DECORATIVE 19TH CENTURY NEOCLASSICAL WALL PAPER PANELS. “L’HISTOIRE DE PSYCHÉ”.
These four panels refer to the famous novel by Jean de Lafontaine “The loves of Psyché and Cupid” itself inspired from the 2nd Century tale of the “Golden Donkey” by Apuleius.
This panoramic decor was created by the designers Merry Joseph Blondel and Louis Lafitte, taking inspiration from the works of François Gerard and Pierre and Pierre-Paul Proudhon two famous painters of the Neoclassical Period.
We will therefore not be surprised by the style of these panels where antique furniture inspired by Jacob apears in particular.
This story was chosen by the Joseph Dufour manufacture for the exhibitions of the French industrial products in 1819.
This work obtained the silver medal and marked the spirits by its quality, its originality comes from the composition in twelve panels constituing a cycle were each scene can be associated or dissociated.
