AN ITALIAN LATE 19TH CENTURY ORIENTALIST WHITE CARRARA MARBLE SCULPTURE BY FERNANDO VICCHI.
A stunning Italian late 19th century orientaliste white Carrara marble sculpture « Jeune fille à la cruche ».
The beautiful young lady is standing next to a wel dressed in richly sculpted flowing period attire with her hair wrapped in a head scarf, one hand holding an urn the other hand at her shoulder.
The wonderfully executed and most charming statue displays a square base beneath an earth like ground.
Fernando Vicchi was a central figure in the realization of marble sculptures from the Florentin scene at the end of the 19th Century.
His works were first produced for the BAZZANTI gallery that opened in 1822 and still active today.
Vicchis’ compositions varies in matter of subjects from antique inspired buste, to renaissance style works and also to more orientalist type of work of which our marble is a perfect exemple.
